Chemistry Unit
Metabrain’s chemistry unit benefits from state of the art facilities and equipments operated by a highly experienced team. Our medicinal chemistry activity can generate arrays or single compounds using complex multi-stage synthetic routes. The analytics platform permits product purification including chiral separations, characterization by NMR, and physico-chemical property assessments.
The chemistry unit can therefore contribute to the structure/activity relationship studies and the optimization of hit and lead compounds, in particular with the help of molecular modeling experts. Our analytics platform also works in close relationship with our pharmacologists for the pharmacokinetic (PK) profiling of compounds. The use of Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELN) facilitates the interactions with our partners,
Medicinal Chemistry
Taking a hit series all the way to preclinical candidate status is an optimization process that our centre has been dedicated to for decades. The Metabrain team has extensive experience at developing compounds targeting the most worked-on biological targets to treat diabetes and obesity. Our hit and lead optimization know-how is based on the close collaboration of molecular modelers, medicinal chemist, biologist, biochemist and pharmacologist.
Together, generating innovating building blocks, pro-drugs, metabolites, bioisosters is routine work. Structure-based drug design and iterative screening are both possible. Proposing and exploring the synthetic routes to innovative compounds is our specialty. This work is always done in the context of building patentable molecules, with constant IP-space evaluation.
Our med chem work aim to optimize structure activity relationships: Target activity & Selectivity as well as structure property relationships: Solubility, Lipophilicity, pKa, Physicochemical Stability, Metabolic Stability, Permeability …
Analytics platform
The analytics platform works closely with the chemical synthesis labs as well as the pharmacologists.
It carries out a series of missions listed below:
- Synthetic product and natural extracts purification
- Enantiomeric separation
- Compound characterization
- Purity determination
- Analytical method development
- pKa & solubility measurement in water or vehicles
- Stability studies in various samples (buffers, cell supernatants, plasma, bile, tissues)
Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELN)
We work with electronic lab notebooks (ELN), which provide on-line traceability of experiments and synthetic work, as well as inventory databases and compound registration. This software package provides data visualization and predictive modeling tools to support the decision-making process with an integrated view of the ongoing projects.
Logistics
The logistics platform is the complement to our R&D activity that ensures reception, storage and dispatch of compounds and reagents.
Compounds are stored in optimal conditions in areas with controlled temperature and ventilation, with limited access.
The electronic inventory and registration managed by Cambridge Soft software enables reliable traceability and instant access to information concerning the reagents and compounds stored.
